Splurge vs. Save: As a superfan, here's what I'm picking up in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

Sounds weird, but I'm basically in an LTR with Nordstrom. We go way back, and every time I set foot in the store, I work my way around the shoe department to the shelves of bedding and home decor, soaking up the breakout trends and picking out my favorite things. While my debit card doesn't appreciate being swiped nonstop, it doesn't mind when the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is on — which is happening as I type.

Normally, I tackle this sale with my mom and sister — all of us with a mint chocolate chip Ice Storm from the EBar in hand. This year while I'm away from home, I've been spending hours shopping the sale online.

I know Nordstrom is a little (well, super) expensive, which is why I'm invested in picking out the best home items from its sale this year. Whether you're decorating your dorm or outfitting your first apartment after leaving home, you won't have an empty cart after browsing these picks. I've divvied it up between splurge vs. save buys. If you just got a li'l birthday money or you're really budget-conscious this month, there is a luxe pick and a more affordable one.

Nordy Club members had early access, but since July 17, everyone has been granted entry to the online and in-store discounts. The sale ends August 7 this year, so don't sit this one out. Let's take a look...

Throw blankets

Team RH is a big advocate for owning a lot of throw blankets. With the number of styles, colors, and materials out there, you'll probably find more than one to add to your rental space. They're easy to style and — obviously — extremely cozy.

Sleep accessories

If you already have your bedding squared away, to really up your sleep game, you need the right accessories. Cozy throws, eye masks, luxe pillowcases, and even a silk scrunchie are worth adding to your routine, and you can find all of these on-sale, below.

Cute cookware

The pots and pans you choose will make or break your cooking experience at home — take it from someone who hates to cook. A good cast iron pan and a snazzy non-toxic pan are essentials in my book, and both are on sale at Nordstrom.

Comfy bedding

Whether you live in a dorm, apartment, or at your parents' house, the right set of sheets can work wonders. They'll improve your sleep and also look super chic depending on the color and style you choose — as long as you make your bed (I always forget).

Other Nordstrom Anniversary sale finds I won't be ghosting

Scrolling for hours through the sale section can be tiring, especially when you have to sift through some pretty basic buys and not-so-special discounts to really find good deals. I've done the heavy lifting and picked out a few extra buys that are worth clicking "check out" on.

When is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?

Nordy Club cardholders had a special invite where they could shop the sale early, but it's been open to the public since July 17. The sale runs until August 6, so don't procrastinate on this one, bb.

What is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?

This is Nordstrom's major yearly sale that happens every summer. You can find discounts across home, fashion, and beauty. It normally lasts for a couple of weeks and Nordy Club card holders get early access. You can shop both in-store and online for deals.

Melissa Epifano
Global Editor in Chief

Why hello! I'm Melissa, and as the Global Editor in Chief of Real Homes, my aim is to help our community design homes that feel authentic, real, and functional. Though we all love aspirational images and celebrity houses, my team and I are motivated to create content that makes sense for your lifestyle, needs, and interests, whether you own a home, rent an apartment, share a space with your parents, or live in a cozy converted van. I myself am a renter and am constantly seeking out ways to personalize my home – which is, as many people know, a more challenging task than it sounds. When I'm not editing home content, I'm usually staring at birds through binoculars, curled up with a good book, or devouring a new flavor of ice cream.
